For the really careful...

For those among you that don't like the idea of
giving their e-mail-address in the e-mail form on the
front page. You can use the comment-link under this
article and leave your e-mail address in a shape like
address[at]email[dot]com or something similar.
I will check the comments here and sent invitations for Writely and/or Google Spreadsheet as soon as possible.

Google Spreadsheet, GDrive and File Collaboration
12/07/06 04:55
Testing Writely and Gsheet for 1 month now and it
keeps getting better and better. Also the latest rumors
about how to save these online documents and
spreadsheets. Of-course a logical and yet so simple
solution would be GDrive.
The main sales-men story around it will be the fact that even if your computer crashes, your documents will still be safe and sound on Googles' hardware out-there. there will always be groups od people that want their stuff on their own hard drives and not on those of Google. But the idea seems to me it can safe a lot of people carrying USB sticks and portable hard drives everywhere they go.
There is some stuff to gain from this. We haven't heard the last of online collaboration on documents and spreadsheets and how and where we save and store those files.
To be continued...
Writely and Google Spreadsheet
03/07/06 10:45
This website is running for approx. 30 days now
and a lot of invitations have been sent out.
Unfortunately in this modern world we have such a thing
called spam. And I have seen more messages of users on
for instance the Google Groups that this website is
supposed to be a scam for spam.
That is not so. This website has been built to try and be helpful to people that would like to receive a Writely and/or Google Spreadsheet invitation.
Some users that have received an invitation through this website were so kind to write some messages about it on the Google Groups. You can find their messages here: Google Groups
Stability

So far I have received over a 100 requests for
invitations and they have all been sent. In that
process I found out that it is (for Beta) quite stable.
Both Google Spreadsheet as well as Writely.com haven't
had a single disconnect on the pages I am working on.
While working with both Google Spreadsheet and on Writely.com I have caught myself using the applications even as scrapbooks for work I do.
Writely.com

The day I heard about Google going for a productivity application for
spreadsheets, that same day I read about
Google buying out Writely.com.
A very logical step, since Writely.com has produced a pretty nice online document editor. Some will call it a Word clone. My opinion is that MS Office has always been too bloated and too much filled with all sorts of solutions. Ask a Webdesigner how he likes it when he receives a Word document that has been treated as if Word is a fine picture editor.
So I will call what Writely.com made a very efficient document editor with all the basic tools.
So it can't be long before Google will implement Writely.com in one of their Google Beta applications. As I see it the new applications will never replace Word and Excel, but I do think that many many people can use this and with all respect, do not need all the thrills that Word and Excel have to offer.
Gsheet

Trying out Google Spreadsheet. ( I think Gsheet
is a nice name also) I must come to the conclusion that
for what I do with spreadsheets it is quite sufficient.
I have no Fort Knox pile of money concerned with my
numbers and figures in my Excel documents.
So again. Quite sufficient for me, but I can imagine some major companies wanting their data safe. Not flying around in the ether on non-secure lines like now. And of-course the thought of precious lab results and alike. Some companies could never agree on Google sniffing through their data. Not even if the 'sniffer' is not a human being but a bot.
But in short a conclusion based on personal Gsheet use: 100% usable
